Social Media Does More Good Than Harm
Debate Writing by Norman John Bandibas
Social media has vast, diverse effects in
this day and age. It allows people to connect from the other side of the globe.
People can share information, ideas, or thoughts. While it has many benefits,
social media also has a downside. However, social media does more good than
harm. Ladies and gentlemen, I am Norman John Bandibas, and today's subject
matter is about how social media does more good than harm. Let us begin with my
argument.
First,
social media grants connectivity. It helps maintain and strengthen
relationships whether they are far away from each other. It broke down
geographic barriers that allow different people to share and collaborate ideas.
Because of this, people use social media to maintain relationships with their
loved ones that are far away. Also, social media has increased the quality and
rate of collaboration for students (Siddiqui & Singh, 2016). Even though
global connectivity can be a security risk, it can be avoided by practicing
awareness and security software
Second,
social media allows information dissemination. It is a powerful tool to inform
news, events, and possible crises. Pages like ABS-CBN, GMA, or PAGASA are
available to the public, allowing everyone to be well informed on current
events. Thus, social media is a meaningful platform for informing citizens
(Qihao, 2017). However, it is important to fact-check information because
false information sometimes circulates on social media.
Lastly,
social media introduced many economic opportunities. Entrepreneurs use social
media as an opportunity to build and develop businesses. Social media generates
additional income, such as advertising, employment, collaboration, and
e-commerce. It also made work flexible, allowing employees to work at their
homes through social media platforms. Social Media Marketing is a useful and
powerful marketing tool (Rujava & Prenaj, 2016).
In conclusion, while social media has pros and cons, it does more good than
harm. It has many positive effects, such as granting connectivity, information
dissemination, and economic opportunities. The positive impact of social media
allows people to be grateful for social media. In the end, every good side
always has a bad counterpart; it is the responsibility of the people to
determine how they approach social media.
